  43 It can be used in conjunction with DNS, and the NIS
  44 maps `hosts.byaddr' and `hosts.byname', as controlled by

  46 For each host a single line should be present
  47 with the following information:

  49 Internet address
  50 official host name

  54 Items are separated by any number of blanks and/or
  55 tab characters.
  56 A ``#'' indicates the beginning of
  57 a comment; characters up to the end of the line are
  58 not interpreted by routines which search the file.

  62 this file provides a backup used when the name server
  63 is not running.
  64 For the name server, it is suggested that only a few addresses
  65 be included in this file.
  66 These include addresses for the local interfaces that

  71 data base maintained at the Network Information Control
