   1 digiKam is an advanced digital photo management application for
   2 KDE, which makes importing and organizing digital photos a "snap".
   3 The photos are organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically,
   4 by folder layout or by custom collections.

   6 You tag your images which can be spread out across multiple folders,
   7 and digiKam provides fast and intuitive ways to browse these tagged
   8 images. You can also add comments to your images.  digiKam makes
   9 use of a fast and robust database to store these meta-informations
  10 which makes adding and editing of comments and tags very reliable.

  12 An easy-to-use interface is provided that enables you to connect
  13 to your camera and preview, download and/or delete your images.
  14 Basic auto-transformations can be deployed on the fly during image
  15 downloading.

  17 Another tool, which most artists and photographers will be familiar
  18 with, is a Light Table. This tool assists artists and photographers
  19 with reviewing their work ensuring the highest quality only. A
  20 classical light table will show the artist the place on the images
  21 to touch up. Well in digiKam, the light table function provides
  22 the user a similar experience. You can import a photo, drag it onto
  23 the light table, and touch up only the areas that need it.

  25 The digiKam Image Editor has its own plugin subsystem with some
  26 common tools e.g. red eye correction or Gamma correction. Additional
  27 plugins are provided with the main application to process advanced
  28 corrections on image like color management, noise reduction, or
  29 special effects. digiKam Image Editor supports all camera RAW file
  30 formats, 16 bits color depth, Exif/Makernote/IPTC/GPS metadata,
  31 Color management, tagging/rating/comments pictures, etc.

  33 A stand-alone image editor version named ShowFoto is also available.
  34 It runs without digiKam images database support, but provides all
  35 Image Editor functions.
