   1 WaveSurfer is an Open Source tool for sound visualization and
   2 manipulation. It has been designed to suit both novice and advanced
   3 users. WaveSurfer has a simple and logical user interface that
   4 provides functionality in an intuitive way and which can be adapted to
   5 different tasks. It can be used as a stand-alone tool for a wide range
   6 of tasks in speech research and education. Typical applications are
   7 speech/sound analysis and sound annotation/transcription. WaveSurfer
   8 can also serve as a platform for more advanced/specialized
   9 applications. This is accomplished either through extending the
  10 WaveSurfer application with new custom plug-ins or by embedding
  11 WaveSurfer visualization components in other applications.
