What is the point of HAL?

To merge information from various sources such that desktop applications can
locate and use hardware devices. The point is that the exact set of
information to merge varies by device and bus type. In order to do this, we
need to define a format for the information, hence the HAL specification.

We may read some stuff from the hardware itself, then add some info provided
by the kernel, then add some metadata from some systemwide files, then add
some data that has been obtained by the desktop and stored per-user, then
look at some blacklist, and finally we have a complete picture of everything
known about that particular device.

An extra value is that we can do this in an operating system independent way.
Stuff like this is important to the major desktop environments.

Import libvolume_id version 0.81.0.

Libvolume_id is an API for obtaining many file system related attributes
(such as type, label, uuid, etc.) given an open file handle to a block
special device.

Import usbids version 20081118.

This package contains a public list of all known IDs used in USB devices;
that is ID's of vendors, devices, subsystems and device classes.  These ID
lists (usually in form of a usb.ids file) are used in various programs
to display full device names instead of the numeric IDs.

Import hal-info version 20081022.

hal-info is a small hal sub-package that provides the hardware data and
quirks. These quirks are currently things like what mice support reporting
battery status, what music players are supported and what cameras are
detected.

and seats present on a system. It provides a mechanism for software to react

Wine is a program which allows running Microsoft Windows programs
(including DOS, Windows 3.x and Win32 executables) on Unix.  It consists
of a program loader which loads and executes an Microsoft Windows binary,
and a library that implements Windows API calls using their Unix or X11
equivalents.  The library may also be used for porting Win32 code into
native Unix executables.

Import twitux version 0.62.

Twitux is a free and open source GTK+ application for Twitter.com. You can:
Send status, view friend status and see what they are doing, send direct
messages to your Twitter friends, GUI notifications when a friend updates
their status.. and more :)

Addition of package containing unsupported Xpdf headers from poppler.

lxml is a Pythonic binding for the libxml2 and libxslt libraries.
It is unique in that it combines the speed and feature completeness
of these libraries with the simplicity of a native Python API,
mostly compatible but superior to the well-known ElementTree API.

This package contains the schema files for TEI P5, in both DTD and
RELAX NG formats.

Initial import of tei-xsl-5.14:

This is a set of XSLT specifications to transform TEI XML documents
to HTML, to LaTeX, and to XSL Formatting Objects.

It concentrates on TEI Lite, but adding support for other modules
is fairly easy. In the main, the setup has been used on new documents,
i.e. reports and web pages that have been authored from scratch,
rather than traditional TEI-encoded existing material.

Import p5-Text-SpellChecker version 0.03.

This module is built on Text::Aspell, but adds some of the
functionality provided by the internal gnu aspell API. This allows
one to deal with blocks of text, rather than just words. For
instance, we provide methods for iterating through the text,
serializing the object (thus remembering where we left off), and
highlighting the current misspelled word within the text.

Import p5-Text-Aspell version 0.09.

This module provides a Perl interface to the GNU Aspell library.
This module is to meet the need of looking up many words, one at
a time, in a single session, such as spell-checking a document in
memory.

This module provides a class and methods to facilitate elapsed and estimated
finish time reporting.

Import p5-GD-SecurityImage version 1.66.

The (so called) "Security Images" are so popular. Most internet
software use these in their registration screens to block robot
programs (which may register tons of fake member accounts). Security
images are basicaly, graphical CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public
Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart). This module gives
you a basic interface to create such an image. The final output is
the actual graphic data, the mime type of the graphic and the
created random string. The module also has some "styles" that are
used to create the background (or foreground) of the image.

If you are an Authen::Captcha user, see GD::SecurityImage::AC for
migration from Authen::Captcha to GD::SecurityImage.

This module is just an image generator. Not a captcha handler. The
validation of the generated graphic is left to your programming
taste. But there are some captcha handlers for several Perl
FrameWorks. If you are an user of one of these frameworks, see
"GD::SecurityImage Implementations" in "SEE ALSO" section for
information.

Import p5-Authen-PluggableCaptcha version 0.05.

Authen::PluggableCaptcha is a fully modularized and extensible
system for making Pluggable Catpcha (Completely Automated Public
Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart) tests.

Pluggable? All Captcha objects are instantiated and interfaced via
the main module, and then manipulated to require various submodules
as plug-ins.

Authen::PluggableCaptcha borrows from the functionality in
Apache::Session::Flex.

Import p5-HTML-Email-Obfuscate version 1.00.

we just write emails in a way that looks normal to people, but is
very, very difficult to scrape off. Most email scrapers only use

Number::Spell provides functionality for spelling out numbers.
Currently only integers are supported.

By default Number::Spell does American formatting, but can be

Initial import of libgksu-2.0.7. I packaged it for Gnome, but currently
it looks like it's not really needed, so it's untested.

GKSu is a library that provides a Gtk+ frontend to su and sudo. It
supports login shells and preserving environment when acting as a
su frontend. It is useful to menu items or other graphical programs
that need to ask a user's password to run another program as another
user.

Initial import of gnome-system-tools version 2.22.1.

Formerly known as the Ximian Setup Tools, the GST are a fully integrated set
of tools aimed to make easy the job that means the computer administration
on an UNIX or Linux system. They're thought to help from the new Linux or
UNIX user to the system administrators. The GNOME System Tools are free
software, licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Initial import of liboobs version 2.22.0.

Liboobs is a lightweight library that provides a GObject based interface
to system-tools-backends. It's completely abstracted of the
communication and authentication details, making it easy for
applications to integrate with the system details.

Initial import of system-tools-backends version 2.6.0.

The System Tools Backends (s-t-b for short) are a set of cross-platform
modules for Linux, FreeBSD and other Unix systems. The backends provide a
common DBus interface to all platforms to modify or read the system
configuration in a distro independent fashion. Historically, access to
system configuration has varied deeply across Unix flavours, and concreting
a bit more, across Linux distributions, making it near impossible to write
desktop tools that could work flawlessly in a cross-platform way. System
Tools Backends try to fill this gap, offering a generic and easy way for
desktop applications to read and modify configuration details.

Net::DBus provides a Perl XS API to the dbus inter-application
messaging system. The Perl API covers the core base level
of the dbus APIs, not concerning itself yet with the GLib

libraries. libempathy-gtk is a set of powerful widgets that can be
embeded into any GNOME application.

Mission Control, or MC, is a Telepathy component providing a way
for "end-user" applications to abstract some of the details of
connection managers, to provide a simple way to manipulate a bunch
of connection managers at once, and to remove the need to have in
each program the account definitions and credentials.

Misson Control implements some well-defined API's much like each
connection manager respond to a set of well-defined telepathy API's.
The set of API's implemented by MCs will be split in several
interfaces to ease progressive and adaptative implementation of
each facet.

There are different types of files that the MC will use, and that
are installed by the various connection managers package or
third-party application needing to be hooked-in. MC is able to
handle all those file formats as expected.

Initial import of libtelepathy-0.3.3:

The Telepathy project is building a unified framework for many
different kinds of real-time communications. It uses the D-Bus
messaging system to provide a simple interface for client applications,
allowing them to quickly take advantage of Telepathy's benefits.

and in groups), voice calls and video calls; it's less suited for
store-and-forward applications like email

* Unified: Many different programs can take advantage of these
communications; Telepathy lets these programs work together

This is a library for GLib-based Telepathy components.

Telepathy is a D-Bus framework for unifying real time communication,
including instant messaging, voice calls and video calls. It
abstracts differences between protocols to provide a unified
interface for applications.

Initial import of chest-3.19.20080412:

CHEST is an experimental program solving orthodox chess problems
(like "white to move and mate in 5 moves").  It is written in ANSI
C, and developed under UNIX.  There is no user interface:  CHEST
just reads an input file and produces plain text on standard output.

It is not hard to come up with a program that does the same job as
CHEST, but it will be rather slow for non-trivial jobs.  CHEST
tries hard to be fast but still 100% correct.

Import sound-theme-freedesktop 0.2:

This package contains the FreeDesktop sound theme.

This module provides the mod_auth_basic authentication front-end a way to
authenticate users by checking credentials via the Cyrus SASL library.
This may be interesting for setups where other daemons (e.g. for SMTP, IMAP
or LDAP) already running at a machine use SASL to authenticate users. The
module is also useful to authenticate users against databases that use shadow
passwords. You do not need to elevate Apache HTTPD's access rights to
superuser privileges.

Initial import of p5-Devel-NYTProf version 2.07 in the NetBSD

source code profiler.

mowgli is a development framework for C (like GLib), which provides high

also provides a powerful hook system and convenient logging for your code,
as well as a high performance block allocator.

Pod::Spell is a Pod formatter whose output is good for spellchecking.
Pod::Spell rather like Pod::Text, except that it doesn't put much effort
into actual formatting, and it suppresses things that look like Perl symbols
or Perl jargon (so that your spellchecking program won't complain about
mystery words like "$thing" or "Foo::Bar" or "hashref").

The Perl 5 module Text::DHCPLeases provides an object-oriented
interface to ISC DHCPD leases files. The goal is to objectify all
declarations, as defined by the ISC dhcpd package man pages.  This
interface is useful for analyzing, reporting, converting lease
files, or as a tool for other applications that need to import dhcpd
lease data structures.

Added security/p5-Crypt-Eksblowfish version 0.005

Eksblowfish is a variant of the Blowfish cipher, modified to make
the key setup very expensive. ("Eks" stands for "expensive key
schedule".) This doesn't make it significantly cryptographically
stronger, but is intended to hinder brute-force attacks. It also
makes it unsuitable for any application requiring key agility. It
was designed by Niels Provos and David Mazieres for password hashing
in OpenBSD. See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Bcrypt for the hash algorithm.
See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Blowfish for the unmodified Blowfish cipher.

Eksblowfish is a parameterised (family-keyed) cipher. It takes a
cost parameter that controls how expensive the key scheduling is.
It also takes a family key, known as the "salt". Cost and salt
parameters together define a cipher family. Within each family, a
key determines an encryption function in the usual way. See
Crypt::Eksblowfish::Family for a way to encapsulate an Eksblowfish
cipher family.

using sockets in both AF_INET|AF_INET6 domain. It is built upon

WARNING: You should use this module mainly to program IPv6 domain.
Most pobably future releases will not support AF_INET | AF_UNSPEC
options, as the module seems to fail on some given corner cases.
If you require IPv4, you are encouraged to use IO::Socket::INET
from the application level. Be warned.

Import libtheora-docs-1.0 as multimedia/libtheora-docs.

Theora is Xiph.Org's first publicly released video codec, intended for
use within the Ogg's project's Ogg multimedia streaming system.  Theora
is derived directly from On2's VP3 codec; currently the two are nearly
identical, varying only in encapsulating decoder tables in the bitstream
headers, but Theora will make use of this extra freedom in the future to
improve over what is possible with VP3.

This package contains the API documentation for libtheora.

JSON-GLib uses GLib native data types and the generic value container GValue for

Strigi is a daemon which uses a very fast and efficient crawler that can index
data on your harddrive. Indexing operations are performed without hammering
your system, this makes Strigi the fastest and smallest desktop searching
program.  Strigi can index different file formats, including the contents of
the archive files.

Soprano (formerly known as QRDF) is a library which provides a highly
usable object-oriented C++/Qt4 framework for RDF data. It uses
different RDF storage solutions as backends through a simple plugin
system. Soprano is targetted at desktop applications that need a RDF
data storage solution. It has been optimized for easy usage and
simplicity.

Import libclucene 0.9.21nb1 from pkgsrc-wip

CLucene is a high-performance, scalable, cross platform, full-featured,
open-source indexing and searching API. It is written in C++.

CLucene is a port of the very popular Java Lucene text search engine API.
Specifically, CLucene is the guts of a search engine, the hard stuff.
You write the easy stuff, the UI and the process of selecting and parsing your
data files to pump them into the search engine yourself.

CLucene aims to be a good alternative to Java Lucene when performance really
matters or if you want to stick to good old C++.

Akonadi is a new personal information management (PIM) framework for KDE 4
and is included in the 4.1 release. Akonadi will function as an extensible
data storage for all PIM applications. In KDE 3 all PIM applications had
different data storage and handling methods, which lead to several
implementations of essentially the same thing.  Besides data storage,
Akonadi has several other components including search, and a library
(cache) for easy access and notification of data changes.

Phonon is the Multimedia API for KDE and QT.

In Phonon there are three main concepts: MediaObjects, Paths and Outputs.
The MediaObjects control the playback/capture and provide the media data.
MediaObjects can be connected to Outputs using Path objects which also

Import swfdec-mozilla-0.8.2 as multimedia/swfdec-mozilla.

Swfdec is a decoder/renderer for Macromedia Flash animations.  The
decoding and rendering engine is provided in a library that can be
used by other applications.

This package contains a Mozilla plugin that uses the Swfdec library
for playing SWF files in a browser capable of loading NS-Plugins.

Swfdec is a decoder/renderer for Macromedia Flash animations.  The
decoding and rendering engine is provided in a library that can be
used by other applications.

This package contains programs to integrate Flash functionality
into the GNOME desktop.  Its main application is swfdec-player, a
stand-alone viewer for Flash files.  It also contains swfdec-thumbnailer,
a program that provides screenshots for files to display in the
Nautilus file manager

Catalyst plugin to force the application to restart server processes

also a funny acronym on its own) measures Kwalitee with several
metrics. If you plan to release a distribution to the CPAN -- or
even within your own organization -- testing its Kwalitee before
creating a release can help you improve your quality as well.

Test::Kwalitee and a short test file will do this for you automatically.

mailx (Heirloom Mailx; formerly nail) is a mail user agent derived from
Berkeley Mail 8.1. It is intended to provide the functionality of the
POSIX.2 mailx command with built-in support for MIME messages. This means
it can handle international character sets as well as attachments. In
recent system environments, nail is Unicode/UTF-8 capable. It further
contains some minor enhancements like the ability to set a "From:" Address.

pakchois is just another PKCS#11 wrapper library.  pakchois aims to
provide a thin wrapper over the PKCS#11 interface.

The goals are:

1) to offer a modern* object-oriented C interface wrapper for PKCS#11.

2) to not hide or abstract away any details of the PKCS#11 interface
itself except where absolutely necessary.

3) to handle the details of loading DSOs

4) to allow the caller to avoid caring about where on the system
PKCS#11 modules might be stored, or exactly how they are named.

5) to avoid any dependency on a particular cryptography toolkit.

Existing PKCS#11 wrapper libraries solutions differ in at least one of
the above goals.

QOF, the Query Object Framework, provides a set of C Language
utilities for performing generic structured complex queries on a
set of data held by a set of C/C++ objects. This framework is unique
in that it does NOT require SQL or any database at all to perform
the query. Thus, it allows programmers to add query support to
their applications without having to hook into an SQL Database.

Typically, if you have an app, and you want to add the ability to
show a set of reports, you will need the ability to perform queries
in order to get the data you need to show a report. Of course, you
can always write a set of ad-hoc subroutines to return the data
that you need. But this kind of a programming style is not extensible:
just wait till you get a user who wants a slightly different report.

The idea behind QOF is to provide a generic framework so that any
query can be executed, including queries designed by the end-user.
Normally, this is possible only if you use a database that supports
SQL, and then only if you deeply embed the database into your
application. QOF provides simpler, more natural way to work with
objects.

Import seahorse-plugins-2.24.1 as security/seahorse-plugins.

Seahorse is a GNOME front-end for GnuGP.  It can be used for signing,
encrypting, verifying and decrypting text and files.  The text can be
taken from the clipboard, or written directly in the little editor it
has.  Seahorse is also a keymanager, which can be used to edit almost
all the properties of the keys stored in your keyrings.

This package contains various plugins for Seahorse.

This is a very simple Moose role which provides a CGI like param

This document describes the installation, configuration, and usage
of eBay::API module.

The eBay::API library is based on the eBay API XML schema and it
does not use SOAP to submit calls. Other than differences in the
SOAP envelope and the way SOAP reports errors, the calls and data
types defined in eBay API XML schema and eBay API wsdl are almost
exactly the same.

You can retrieve the latest version of eBay API XML schema from:

During installation that document is used to generate the library's
call and data type classes.
