   1 Dump in hexadecimal the content of a scalar. The result is
   2 returned in a string. Each line of the result consists of
   3 the offset in the source in the leftmost column of each
   4 line, followed by one or more columns of data from the
   5 source in hexadecimal. The rightmost column of each line
   6 shows the printable characters (all others are shown as
   7 single dots).
