   1 EMBOSS stands for "The European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite"
   2 and is  a new, free Open Source software analysis  package specially
   3 developed for the needs of  the molecular biology (e.g. EMBnet) user
   4 community. The software automatically copes with data in a variety of
   5 formats and even allows transparent retrieval of sequence data from
   6 the web. Also, as extensive  libraries are provided with the  package,
   7 it is a platform to allow other scientists to  develop and  release
   8 software  in true open  source spirit.  EMBOSS also  integrates a
   9 range  of currently available packages and tools for sequence analysis
  10 into a seamless whole.
